The development of photovoltaics in the world has greatly accelerated recently. In Poland, too, we see dynamic development, as shown in the graphic below. Until 2014, the installed capacity was small, in 2015 – 104 MW and in 2018 – 488 MW. The estimated photovoltaic capacity for 2019 is about 800 MW and for 2020 – 1200 MW. This may seem small to some, but the data nevertheless leaves no doubt. The photovoltaic industry is developing rapidly in Poland and has great potential. Photovoltaics are also getting cheaper and thus even more accessible.

The development of photovoltaics in Poland and the world will be the topic of the 9th International Photovoltaics in Poland Conference, which will be held on September 10, 2019 as part of the RE-Energy International Renewable Energy Fair. The conference is co-organized by the Polish Photovoltaics Society (PV Poland).
One of the topics will also include new module technologies, such as bifacial, which enables power generation on both sides of a solar module and promises to increase efficiency by 10 to 30%. Bifacial solar is a simple and unique technology, though just one of many exciting solar innovations we will be discussing at the Conference.
Dr. Stanislaw Pietruszko, President of the Polish Photovoltaic Society, also stresses that photovoltaics is an opportunity but also a challenge for Smart Cities. The role of photovoltaics is, on the one hand, to cover the demand for electricity in buildings, but also electric transportation. According to the European Commission, buildings are responsible for 36% of total CO2 emissions in the European Union. Photovoltaics and energy storage are answers to many of the problems of modern cities and at the same time the beginning of an inevitable energy revolution. Another element of the broader energy revolution is cryptocurrencies based on blockchain technologies, such as Solar Coin, GenerCoin, EnergyCoin and the like, could develop into a new energy trading system.
The conference will also cover topics such as the monitoring and servicing of photovoltaic installations, amendments to the RES Act and opportunities for the development of large-scale photovoltaic systems.
